US investment group RedBird Capital had attempted to buy the group twice.
Sony Music Entertainment Japan and Sony Pictures Entertainment now officially own 80 percent of the Peanuts franchise. The companies have closed the deal, which was officially announced in December 2025 when it was still subject to regulatory approvals, for $460 million. Sony Music Japan has owned 39 percent of Peanuts since 2018, so the Sony subsidiaries are essentially buying 41 percent of the franchise from Canadian firm WildBrain with this transaction. The news came from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, one of the preeminent sources on everything Apple. Gurman wrote that the tech giant has warned retailers that this week's releases — especially its budget iPhone 17e and MacBook — could drive major interest.
